Multiple Intelligences Test: What Are Your Strongest Intelligence Styles?

This free multiple intelligences test matches your answers to eight widely discussed intelligence styles — including linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, and interpersonal. It is an educational self-reflection quiz, not an IQ test, not a clinical assessment, and not an official Howard Gardner instrument. Context

What is a multiple intelligences test?

People search “multiple intelligences test” and “what type of smart am I” when they want language for how they take in the world: words, numbers, pictures, movement, music, people, inner life, or the living outdoors. A multiple intelligence quiz uses Howard Gardner’s well-known map as a shared vocabulary. Those eight names are not a lab measurement of ability and they are not a ranking of who is clever. Test & Discover’s version is original. If you came here wondering what type of smart you are, treat the result as a profile of preferences. Keep what sounds true. Look at the second and third styles — they are often the useful part.

How the quiz works

You will answer 24 questions, one at a time. Each option adds two points to one intelligence style and, on most questions, one point to a related style. Mixed results are the point of this quiz, not a rounding error. When you finish, the highest total becomes the headline — for example, “Your answers suggest stronger preferences in the Spatial style.” You will also see your second and third strongest styles and a full percentage breakdown. You can go back and change an answer. Your answers are processed in your browser and are not saved.

How scoring works

Scoring is a transparent tally. Every selected answer adds two points to a primary intelligence style and, on most questions, one point to a neighboring one. The style with the most points is the result we show first. The next two highest totals are listed as your second and third strongest styles. If two styles tie, the page uses a stable order: Linguistic, Logical-Mathematical, Spatial, Bodily-Kinesthetic, Musical, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, then Naturalistic. Percentages show how your points were distributed, not a scientifically calibrated ability score. Nothing is randomized. The same answers always produce the same result.

The intelligence styles explained

The short notes below are original sketches of a popular eight-style map used in education and self-reflection. They are not copied from a competitor, not an official Gardner assessment, and not a claim that intelligence is eight sealed boxes. Test & Discover uses the names because people already search for them.

Linguistic

Words, language, expression. This style gets a grip on a problem by naming it, telling it, arguing it, or writing it until the shape appears.

Logical-Mathematical

Patterns, reasoning, problem solving. This style wants a rule that still works on the next example, and will keep turning the puzzle until the mechanism shows.

Spatial

Visual thinking, layout, mental imagery. This style understands by seeing: maps, sketches, rooms, and the picture that arrives before the sentence.

Bodily-Kinesthetic

Movement, making, hands-on learning. This style thinks with the hands and the rest of the body — rehearsal in motion, not only rehearsal in the head.

Musical

Rhythm, tone, sound patterns. This style notices timing, texture, and whether something has a pulse — including ideas that are not literally songs.

Interpersonal

People, collaboration, social reading. This style learns in the space between people: what the room needs, who is not speaking, how a group can actually move.

Intrapersonal

Self-reflection, inner mapping, independent work. This style needs a private picture of motive and meaning before the public version is trustworthy.

Naturalistic

Living systems, place, pattern in the wild. This style notices species, weather, materials, and the difference between a healthy system and a forced one.

Can you have several strong intelligence styles?

Yes — that is closer to how people actually work. A headline style, a second one you use at work, a third that shows up on weekends, is ordinary. This quiz reports one primary style, then your second and third strongest, plus a full breakdown. A close second is often the more useful insight. The result is a snapshot of how you answered today, not a claim that you only have one kind of mind.

Is this an IQ test?

No. An IQ test is a different kind of instrument, with its own history, limits, and controversies. A multiple intelligences quiz does not produce an IQ score, does not rank general intelligence, and does not claim to measure a single g-factor. Test & Discover’s version asks how you prefer to learn, remember, make, and work with other people. That is a preference map. It is not a claim that you are objectively more intelligent than someone whose answers clustered elsewhere.

Is multiple intelligences theory scientifically settled?

No. Howard Gardner’s multiple intelligences framework is widely known in education and popular psychology. It is also widely debated. There is no agreed scientific test that assigns a person a Linguistic or Spatial score the way a blood panel assigns a number, and researchers disagree about whether these styles are separate “intelligences” or overlapping talents and preferences. Test & Discover’s quiz is educational self-reflection that uses the familiar names. It is not proof that the theory is settled, not a licensed commercial assessment, and not a diagnosis of ability.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a multiple intelligences test?

A multiple intelligences test is a self-reflection quiz that matches your answers to a small set of intelligence-style profiles, such as linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, or interpersonal. Test & Discover’s version is original, free, and scored in your browser. It is not an IQ test, not a clinical assessment, and not an official Howard Gardner instrument.

What are the multiple intelligence types?

In popular use they often include Linguistic, Logical-Mathematical, Spatial, Bodily-Kinesthetic, Musical, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, and Naturalistic. Different books disagree on the details, and some lists add other styles. This page uses the eight familiar names as a shared vocabulary, not as a claim that a scientific census of minds is complete.

Is this an IQ test?

No. It does not produce an IQ score, does not rank general intelligence, and does not claim to measure a single ability factor. It is a preference map: how you like to learn, remember, make, and work with other people.

Can someone have more than one strong intelligence style?

Yes. Mixed profiles are ordinary. This quiz reports a primary style, then your second and third strongest, plus a full percentage breakdown. A close second is often as informative as the first. The result is a snapshot of how you answered today, not a claim that you only have one kind of mind.

Is the multiple intelligences theory scientifically proven?

No. Howard Gardner’s framework is widely known and widely debated. There is no agreed scientific test that assigns these styles the way a lab assigns a measurement, and researchers disagree about whether they are separate intelligences. This quiz is educational self-reflection that uses the familiar names. It is not proof the theory is settled.

What type of smart am I?

This page cannot assign you a literal inner essence or a ranked intelligence. It can tell you which intelligence-style profile your answers most closely match, and which two styles came next. Read the headline, then the top three, then the breakdown. Keep what sounds true.

Is this multiple intelligence test free?

Yes. The multiple intelligences test is free to take. There is no account wall, and your answers are not sold, because they are not saved.

Can intelligence preferences change over time?

In ordinary life, people shift with jobs, health, tools, and who they work with. This quiz only shifts if your answers shift. Retake it when you want a new snapshot. A strong second or third score is often the more useful change to notice.
